The First Draft

At a café in Tasmania, my mum recently finished working on the final chapter of her book.

On her way home she picked blackberries and a few apples from a public tree and went home to make this jam:

Thanks, Meg. I have set a jar aside for you because you are like this jam: sweet and red but with a sharp editing mind. I could never have done it without you.

when I sell citrus pectin
part of me thinks of
pots thickening with fruit,
all that is added,
the type of stir.

how lovely you all are...
enjoy your sweet jam.
